Connect customer interviews to a clear next decision
The Customer Interview Evidence Workbook helps founders, product managers and small research teams keep source excerpts, contradictory observations and next actions connected. Use it after customer conversations when notes are scattered and a proposed feature needs a more careful explanation.
It is a local Microsoft Excel workbook with a blank working file and separate fictional example CSVs. It counts usable evidence items and distinct interview IDs. It does not decide which product to build or calculate market demand.
What your download includes
- One blank XLSX with three sheets: Decisions, Evidence and Interviews.
- Three fictional example CSVs: four interviews, seven evidence items and three opportunity decisions, with instructions for loading them without overwriting formulas.
- A browser-readable start guide: setup, definitions, a worked case, entry-state explanations, capacity limits and maintenance.
- A README and single-business use license. Seven files in one ZIP.
What the workbook does
- Link each evidence item to an interview and an opportunity using IDs.
- Keep Reported event, Observed action, Opinion and Contradiction as separate human classifications.
- Count supporting behavioral items and contradicting items separately.
- Count each usable interview-opportunity pair once, even when that interview contains several excerpts.
- Flag duplicate IDs, unmatched keys, missing source locators, incomplete fields, text dates and interviews whose use permission is not marked Permitted.
- Record an owner, Explore/Test/Park/Reject decision, rationale or next action, and a due date for open learning actions.
Prepared capacity: 30 opportunities, 100 evidence items and 40 interviews. Rows beyond the prepared ranges are not counted. The package does not promise automatic expansion.

Try the workflow before buying
Download the free customer interview brief for Notion HTML import to prepare and debrief one interview. It works independently. Read the customer interview evidence guide for the original worked example. The paid workbook adds cross-interview linking, counts and decision tracking.
Software, updates and limits
Microsoft Excel is the intended editor. The workbook uses scalar formulas and list validation, with no macros. You enter and classify evidence yourself. There is no transcription, AI synthesis, recruitment, CRM connection, cloud sync, hosted research storage or automatic roadmap scoring. A permission field is a record, not a consent form or access-control system.
Twenty-four input-change and boundary assertions passed using Artifact Tool, including export/reimport recalculation. All three sheet views were visually reviewed. Native desktop Excel and live Notion import were not tested. Use the start guide to check the file in your intended app before relying on it.
Common purchase questions
Does distinct interviews mean distinct customers?
No. It counts usable interview IDs linked to one opportunity across all evidence kinds. If one person or company has multiple interview IDs, those are counted separately. Review participant and company coverage yourself.
Will it rank opportunities for me?
No. There is no automatic priority score. Counts expose the underlying evidence; you record your own decision and rationale.
Can I use this in client work?
The included single-business license allows your own operations and client work, including sharing completed reports. It does not permit reselling or distributing the source as a standalone template. See the license page.
