What is included?
- A blank HTML interview brief with learning question, participant context, permission record, recent-event prompts, evidence, interpretation, contradictory observations and follow-up.
- A filled fictional example showing two excerpts from one agency interview and an alternative explanation from a later interview.
- README instructions and a free-use license.
Import it into Notion
- Extract the ZIP.
- On Notion web or desktop, open Settings, choose Import, then HTML.
- Select the blank HTML file. Import the fictional example separately.
- Review the imported page, replace bracketed fields and duplicate it for the next interview.
Notion’s official import guide documents HTML import. This package has not been import-tested in a live Notion account. It is a page-based template, with no native database, relations, formulas, automation or one-click duplication link. Import formatting may vary. You can also open either HTML file in a browser to read or print it.

Learning question
Which recent workflow, unmet need or assumption are you investigating? Which decision will the interview inform?
Ask about a recent event
- Recall the most recent time you carried out the relevant task. What triggered it?
- Who was involved, what information did you need, and where did you pause or repeat work?
- What did you do instead? When did the same task go smoothly, and what was different?
Keep these fields separate
- Source excerpt or observed action, with timestamp or paragraph locator.
- Your interpretation and remaining uncertainty.
- Contradictory evidence or an alternative explanation.
- Next learning step, owner and review date.
Fictional example
An agency operations lead describes starting delivery with an old scope link and later asking which version was approved. That produces two evidence items from one interview. A second agency already uses a single owner and a versioned link successfully. A useful next step is to examine the handoff conditions before assuming the answer is new reminder software.
All examples are fictional. They are not customer testimonials, survey findings or proof of demand.
Free brief versus paid workbook
This brief helps you prepare and debrief one conversation. The Customer Interview Evidence Workbook adds Excel registers for up to 40 interviews, 100 evidence items and 30 opportunity decisions, with linked ID checks, separate contradiction counts and deduplicated interview coverage. The brief remains usable on its own.
Follow the worked evidence guide to see how several excerpts become a reviewable decision without overstating a small sample.
